Inter Milan’s star striker Lautaro Martinez has his sights set on a summer move to Barcelona ahead of Manchester United, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has popped up on Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s radar as he looks to bolster his side’s attacking options. But according to ESPN, Martinez favors a move to Camp Nou ahead of a switch to Old Trafford, which wouldn’t be the first time United have missed out on a high-priority transfer target. Solskjaer was unable to lure fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland to the club in January, with the 19-year-old currently averaging a goal every 19 minutes in the Bundesliga for new side Borussia Dortmund.
United was reportedly told by Inter they would have to pay Martinez’s full release clause of £94 million to acquire his services, which could lead them to assess cheaper options. The Argentinian international has been in fine form for Antonio Conte’s rejuvenated Nerazzurri, with 16 goals and four assists in all competitions. Manchester United’s summer requirements could hinge on the performance of new striker Odion Ighalo, who signed on loan from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for the remainder of the season.
