John Wick trilogy director Chad Stahelski teases that some deleted scenes from John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum will be used for John Wick: Chapter 4.
John Wick: Chapter 4 could recycle unused scenes from John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum. The John Wick franchise started off in 2014 with Keanu Reeves starring and Chad Stahelski directing. The film was well-received by fans and critics due to its well-choreographed and brutal fight sequences, which in addition to its impressive box office run, resulted in two sequels.
John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum was released last May, and Lionsgate was quick to announce the fourth film. The third film clearly set up a sequel, with the Bowery King seemingly teaming up with Wick after he was betrayed by Winston. That being said, not a whole lot is known about the film’s story, except for what fans are assuming given the end of Chapter 3. Updates on the film have been slim to none since John Wick: Chapter 4 was delayed by a whole year to May 2022, which means that the film will no longer be coming out on the same day as The Matrix 4. Now, the director has given fans a tidbit about what we could see in 2022.
When speaking with THR, Stahelski briefly talked about what could be included in John Wick: Chapter 4. The director didn’t give any specifics but mentioned that several cut sequences from Parabellum could be recycled for Chapter 4. Stahelski also explained how while certain scenes were cut from the film, most of them were his decisions since the studio gave him a lot of creative control. The director’s full quote about Parabellum‘s cut scenes appearing in Chapter 4 can be read below:
“There’s a couple things. We had a couple of overlapping thematics, and I stripped it down to the bare essentials. And there were two action sequences that we had really kind of conceived, but we just didn’t have room for them. So, we pulled them from the movie. And I’d like to think that 90 percent of what I pulled, there’s a place in John Wick 4 that I can definitely reinsert them.”
While John Wick: Chapter 4 is on the way, that won’t be the end of the franchise. There are actually two John Wick spin-offs in development at the moment. One is a TV series called The Continental, which will explore the origins of the Continental hotel: a neutral zone for the mercenaries and criminals in the films. Len Wiseman has also been hired to direct Ballerina, a spin-off that will focus on one of the female assassins that were introduced in Parabellum.
Parabellum had even more action scenes than the first two films did, so it’s not hard to imagine that certain things had to be cut down or scrapped completely. Parabellum set up an all-out war between John Wick and the Bowery King vs. the High Table, which will no doubt include several elaborate fight sequences between the Boogeyman and the various agents of the criminal organization. Needless to say, once production finally starts on John Wick: Chapter 4, fans will have a better idea of what’s in store for them come 2022.
