“Smash” To Be Adapted Into Stage Musical

Steven Spielberg, WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt and “Chicago” producer Neil Meron are all teaming for a Broadway stage adaptation of the NBC musical series “Smash”.

The Tony and Grammy-winning duo of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who penned over two dozen songs for the television show, will provide the score which will include many of the songs that popped up on the series.

Like the series, the show will follow the efforts to mount “Bombshell” – a Broadway musical-within-a-musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. However the plot will also deviate from that of the series even as many of the key characters will again be central here.

The book for “Smash, A New Musical” will be penned by Tony winner Bob Martin (“The Prom”) and Tony-nominated Rick Elice (“Peter and the Starcatcher”). Emmy-winning choreographer Joshua Bergasse will reprise his gig for the stage musical.
