“Mandalorian” Showrunner Talks Sabine Wren

The animated series “Star Wars Rebels” closed out with a scene set post-“Return of the Jedi” as Ashoka Tano and Sabine Wren’s search for Ezra Bridger continued.

The live-action “The Mandalorian” series is set in a time period not long after this scene, and we know that Rosario Dawson is expected to appear as Tano in the show’s upcoming second season which has already been shot.

So that begs the obvious question, if Tano is going to show up does that mean Wren will as well? Wren certainly has a history with Mandalore so it would be understandable. Speaking with Deadline, ‘Rebels’ and ‘Mandalorian’ showrunner Dave Filoni was asked about the possibility of Sabine’s story continuing on the latter show and says:

“Oh, I think it’s possible. I mean, it’s definitely something that I left hanging at the end and part of that reason is just it’s always nice in my mind when there’s another story. I like things in a series, even when I read or watch them, and there’s always a bit of sadness when something does come to an end, so potential is a great thing.

I love that people are thinking about these stories in the same way that I wondered about many stories. As a kid I wondered what happened to Luke after Return of the Jedi and all my heroes. I think it’s a natural part of enjoying this, and I think there’s always potential for further stories. Certainly, I will say it’s something I’ve given a decent amount of thought to, so you never know when or if it will actually ever take shape.”

It’s not clear if we’ll see this happen in the new season. Casting reports surrounding the episodes didn’t start coming out until after production had wrapped filming, including Dawson’s casting. Whatever the case, Filoni is someone who seems aware what fans want. Will he give it to them when the new season launches in October?
